Açaí (Ah-sa-ee) in Portuguese or Açaí (aa-kai) in English language is a popular and ancient health giving super berry that can be found in South and Central America
The Amazon Rainforest has been growing Açaí berries for thousands of years. The Indigenous people that live in these regions have been reaping the benefits of the Açaí berry for quite some time.
This super berry is an inch long reddish-purple fruit that grows in clusters high up on tall thin palm trees in the Amazon floodplains. Often described as having a fruity red wine flavour with chocolate overtones. The Açaí berry is richer in antioxidants than cranberries, raspberries blackberries, strawberries and blueberries.
Only %10 of the Açaí berry is made up of actual fruit and the rest is seed. This makesthe production of Açaí highly laborious. We extract the pulp from the seed on site within hours of harvesting to ensure the fruit retain its delicious flavour and nutritional integrity. Moreover, Açaí seeds are used in crafts for making all type of jewellery such as necklace, bracelets and earrings.
The berries that grow on the Açaí tree are called Cacho.
The açaí palm can be found throughout much of northern South America. It grows naturally mostly in shaded and flooded area of the rainforest. It can grows up to 100 feet(30 metre) in height.
The baskets are called Lata. Each basket hold up to 15kg of acai berries.
